Shallow Water Lifeguarding (March 6th-9th)

Description

The American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguarding (Up to 6 ft) certification course provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 6 feet; to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.  This course is offered in a blended learning format. Course participants must complete a 6-hour online portion on their own time before the first day of class.

Participants who successfully complete the Shallow Water Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Shallow Water Lifeguarding (up to 6 ft) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, valid for 2 years.

PREREQUISITES:

• Minimum age: 15 years old
• Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence. Swim 50 yards continuously using breaststroke, front crawl, or a combination of both; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Swim 50 yards continuously using breaststroke, front crawl, or a combination of both.
• Complete a timed event within 50 seconds by starting in the water swim 20 yards, Submerge to a depth of 5 to 6 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, Return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yards on the back, return to the starting point with both hands while holding the object, and exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

Students are required to have a copy of the Lifeguarding Manual. A digital copy will be provided to all students. A hard copy of the Lifeguarding Manual is available for purchase, it can added to the cart at the link below.
