r.24 Lifeguard Instructor & Instructor Trainer (LGI/LGIT) Recertification (August 23rd, 2025)

Description

The American Red Cross LGI/LGIT Recertification course is the required course for all Lifeguarding Instructors and Instructor Trainers to recertify. During this course, Lifeguarding Instructors and Instructor Trainers will participate in an in-water practice and polish skills session in addition to a classroom-based review of Red Cross administrative policies and procedures.

PREREQUISITES:

• Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor or Instructor Trainer certification.
• Must have completed the r.24 Lifeguarding Instructor Update online before August 31st, 2024.
• Successfully complete the r.24 online sessions for the Lifeguarding Instructor/Instructor Trainer Recertification course prior to the in-person session:
  o Basic-level Lifeguarding blended learning online content
  o Lifeguarding Instructor or Instructor Trainer Recertification online content

THESE ONLINE COURSES WILL TAKE UP TO 10 HOURS TO COMPLETE.  STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE ACCESS TO THESE COURSES 1-WEEK PRIOR TO THE IN-PERSON SESSION.

Instructor Candidates also have the opportunity to earn their basic-level r.24 Lifeguarding certification by way of test-out.  This will be accomplished after the final class session and will take approximately 1 hour.  Please add it to your cart by clicking on the link below.

Requirements for basic-level Lifeguarding Certification:

• Complete the basic-level Lifeguarding precourse session.
• Complete the basic-level Lifeguarding Final Skills Assessment scenarios
• Successfully pass the basic-level Lifeguarding written test with a score of 80% or better

Participants must bring their own adult and infant resuscitation masks, a copy of the r.24 Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual (digital or hard copy), a copy of the r.24 Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer’s Guide (LGITs only) (digital or hard copy), and a copy of the r.24 Lifeguarding Manual (digital or hard copy.  These items can be downloaded from Red Cross Learning Center or purchased from www.redcross.org/store
